National Cancer Society of Malaysia is a not-for-profit organization with a deeply important mission. It wants to ensure that no Malaysian fears cancer:
- By creating an understanding that leads to prevention and early detection,
- By providing the best possible care and support for those affected by cancer.
The association’s motto is Giving Hope, Giving Life. Although it relies on support through donations to achieve these three goals:
- Educate – To minimise cancer in Malaysia by raising public awareness of prevention, screening and early detection of cancer through education.
- Care – To increase access to cancer services in Malaysia by providing affordable, as well as advanced screening and diagnostic facilities.
- Support – To empower individuals and those affected with cancer to maintain the highest possible quality of life
Since Breast Cancer Awareness month is around the corner, this is a perfect time to show your support for National Cancer Society Malaysia and cancer patients in Malaysia.
The National Cancer Society of Malaysia is the first not-for-profit cancer organisation in Malaysia that provides education, care and support services for people affected by cancer and the general public.
A Call to Donate to a Venerable Charity
The association established in 1966, and set up the National Cancer Registry five years later. Since then it grew and matured to the point it hosted World Cancer Congress in 2018. These are impressive credentials but there are more.
National Cancer Society of Malaysia works with corporate partners, government organisations, other civil-society organisations, academic institutions and many others to address the complex challenges in cancer care throughout Malaysia and the world.
These partners contribute resources to enable joint solutions for overcoming challenges, and strive together for a shared vision of a world without cancer. But little of this would be possible without their incredible energy, dedication and support.
Perhaps you sense a call to give of your resources too. Cancer is a disease and diseases are curable. Help the association forge further ahead, and do bigger and better things as they strive to fight cancer daily. Their track record assures they will use your support wisely.
National Cancer Society Strives Through Education
The association believes knowledge brings power and right decisions about health. It has several outreaches providing evidence-based advice to equip those affected with knowledge and skills.
TUN ABDUL RAZAK DIGITAL LIBRARY
The second Prime Minister of Malaysia was the founding patron of the National Cancer Society of Malaysia. He was also a cancer survivor who was passionate about education and reshaped the national system.
The Digital Library houses National Cancer Society publications, as well as books, reports, booklets and all other educational material on cancer prevention, care, treatment and support. These are all available as free downloadable content. Higher resolution copies are available on request. No donation is necessary.
National Cancer Society also believes cancer care reaches beyond the confines of their centres. Their Pink Unity cancer support group, and volunteers share cancer information and knowledge in a wide variety of communities.
There they present educational talks concerning warning signs of cancer, ways to reduce cancer risks, and clinical breast examination. Their lines are always open to invitations.
AWARENESS AND PREVENTION
National Cancer Society spreads the message at workplaces, schools and universities, by setting up portable displays and providing expert speakers. They give presentations empowering their audiences with knowledge and skills on cancer and prevention, and inspiring them to take positive action for their health.
They also equip corporates to set up information services advising their employees about diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. These lifestyle illnesses continue to rise in Malaysia, and associate with work, unhealthy diets, physical inactivity, and harmful use of tobacco and alcohol.
